Building Energy Performance can offer design and pre-construction advice, site inspections during construction, pre-test visits, airtightness testing, air leakage investigation and advice on effective remedial works should the building fail to achieve the required standard.

Design and Pre-Construction Advice
Building Energy Performance has a comprehensive database of good practice guidance documents and can offer practical advice to builders, architects, developers and building owners. A review of the proposed construction methods and materials can be undertaken by reviewing drawings and specifications at our offices in Caerphilly or at your own premises.

Site Inspections and Pre-Test Visits
Site visits can be undertaken to monitor construction quality and detailing to confirm that an effective airtight barrier is being provided. Airtightness tests are preceded by the issuing of a pre-test inspection list. Alternatively, a separate pre-test inspection can be made by Building Energy Performance to ensure the test itself is carried out quickly with the minimum of disruption.

Airtightness Testing
Building Energy Performance has the latest fan pressurisation equipment ranging from modular single door fans for testing small buildings and rooms within buildings, to large trailer mounted fan rigs for testing larger buildings. All tests can normally be carried out in one day, with the building pressurisation lasting around one hour. A pass or fail will be confirmed whilst on site, and a full written report will be issued within 3 working days of completing the test.

Air Leakage Investigation and Remedial Works
Should your building fail to achieve the required airtightness standard further investigation can be undertaken whilst on site to pin point the causes of the failure using smoke testing methods. Remedial works can then be agreed to bring the building envelope up to the necessary standard prior to carrying out a retest.

• Thermographic testing of building envelopes to BRE 176 by fully trained thermographers.
• Production of Building Energy Log Books in the CIBSE template to satisfy the requirements of part L of the Building Regulations.
